How Should Window Perf Be Cleaned?

Because perforated window film contains thousands of tiny holes, dirt and debris can gradually build up within the perforations over time. If not cleaned correctly, this can reduce the one-way vision effect and impact the appearance of the graphics.

To help maximise the lifespan and visibility of your window perf graphics, we recommend the following cleaning process.

Important Cleaning Notes

• Do not clean perforated window film within the first 24 hours after installation
• Avoid aggressive scrubbing or abrasive cleaning methods
• Take extra care around edges and corners, as these areas are more vulnerable to damage if not edge sealed
• Incorrect cleaning methods may lead to premature failure of the film

Recommended Cleaning Method

1. Prepare a Mild Soap Solution

Mix mild soap with plenty of water to create a sudsy cleaning solution.

2. Apply With a Soft Cloth or Sponge

Apply the solution to the face of the film using a soft cloth or sponge. Use enough liquid to help soften and flush dirt from the perforation holes.

For stubborn dirt build-up, a soft bristled brush can be used gently.

3. Clean Gently

Carefully wipe the wet surface to remove dirt and debris.

Avoid excessive pressure, particularly on printed graphics, as aggressive scrubbing may damage the ink layer or affect adhesive around the perforations (if you have an overlaminate this protects your ink!)

4. Rinse Thoroughly

Wash away all soap residue using plenty of clean water.

A soft bristled brush can again help remove loosened debris from the holes.

5. Remove Excess Water

You can carefully blot excess water using a soft cloth, use a soft rubber-bladed squeegee, or allow remaining moisture in the perforations to evaporate naturally.

A vacuum-style window cleaner can also be useful for removing excess moisture after cleaning.

Avoid Using

Do not use:

• Solvents
• Alcohol-based cleaners
• Ammonia-based products
• Abrasive pads or brushes
• Harsh chemicals
• High-pressure washing directly on film edges

Using unsuitable cleaning products can damage the print, adhesive, or film surface.
